In the next few weeks we are looking to merge the functionality of the "User Variables" setting into the "Global Filter".

For those that do not use it,, the "User Variables" option allows you to define variables that can be referenced within your filters, without having to redefine the variable. The "Global Filter" is another setting that allows you to take specific filter requirements (e.g. "close is above 10") and apply when the "Global Filter" option enabled.

Until recently, the "Global Filter" was only available for saved "My Filters"; however, now you can enable this for both saved filters as well as filters you are currently editing. Because of this change, we feel there is some redundancy between "Global Filter" and "User Variables". Additionally, by having these two features in separate locations there is a disconnect which can make troubleshooting filter problems more difficult.

At this time, we have made no changes -- we are simply looking for input on how this might negatively impact their use of StockFetcher.

Thank you,
StockFetcher Support

*** UPDATE ***

We have moved ahead and merged the User Variables settings page with the Global Filter. Any assignments you had previously made with User Variables have been moved into your Global Filter. For example if you had the assignment below in your User Variables:

myvar, close - open

That will now be seen in your Global Filter as:

set{myvar, close - open}

And can be referenced anywhere you have enabled the Global Filter.

Thank you and please let us know if you run into any issues or have any questions.

How is this an appropriate place to sneak in a major change that can silently cause filters to stop working? And guess what, when they stop working bc of undefined variables, your system does not alert the user. (Please change this, by the way). He just sees zero matches, and assumes there are no matches for this day.

If you are going to make a change that might cost your customers money in missed opportunities, at least send out an e-mail about it.

Works great!
Thanks.

@ evo - just click "new filter", then click Global filter on.

It's very buggy. When you create or modify a filter, it will sometimes read in the global vars and sometimes not -- despite that fact that global filters remain turned on the entire time.

Also, why can't SF alert users when a filter is run which contains an undefined variable?? Instead, it just shows zero matches, as if the filter is perfectly valid. This cannot be a difficult change to engineer...
